Hi, Wayne Clingman here,
I am your host…no, wait! This is not an “event” with a host but more of a happening, where I plan to offer contests to help anyone get some type of an idea about the wild world of mobile, and a oh what a wild world it is, is it not?
I have the bio’s of the judges up (still waiting on a few), but I guess I should talk about myself as well. Being a Midwestern boy I’m not good at doing that, but I’ll give it the old college try:
Born and raised in Wisconsin, I grew up on a farm, and then as a teenager we moved to Madision, Wisconsin. I joined the Army 1st Cav at Fort Hood Texas, and then served in the Army Reserves back in Madison, Wisconsin.
After a long, strange trip, which included going to U.W. Madison, getting married, fathering three great kids and then getting divorced and dealing with alcoholism, I found myself remarried to a great woman that I do not deserve.
I got involved with film through the creation of the first Wisconsin film incentives and ran my own film festival for two years, called It came from Lake Michigan. I’m also the host of the Indy Film Wisconsin podcast on Blog Talk Radio, now in its 7th year! On the other side of the camera, I’ve acted in a few local films, and I had a great time doing it, but I know I will never be a star 🙂
Using this idea to promote mobile is a way not only to show all of the really great things that mobile can do, but it also shows that creating applications, games and videos can open up a whole wide world to anyone willing to learn the basic knowledge, and who has the desire to go for the gold.
Some quotes from others about me:
Maureen Cashin Bolog (Acting Coach, Public Speaking & Executive Presence)
I’ve known Wayne Clingman since May 2005. He was part of a handful of people who developed the idea of Film Wisconsin and put together a meeting of Wisconsin Filmmakers which I attended along with 147 others. Wayne Clingman was instrumental in bringing many of those filmmakers together. Our focus was on making the government aware of filmmaking as an industry and an important part of the creative economy. Film Wisconsin supported the efforts of film business in the state of Wisconsin after the Wisconsin Film Office closed.
As Film Wisconsin developed, and legislation was passed to support film business, it became apparent that the big budget films were getting the primary attention, with little support for grassroots film business. Wayne decided to meet that need. On the second Saturday of the month, Wayne produced a series of training sessions for Wisconsin actors, filmmakers, crew, writers, etc. He brought in industry professionals, with several people speaking each week on topics such as film scouting, getting permits for shooting, special effects, storyboards, screenwriting, acting, etc. I always found these meetings to be very worthwhile both for training and networking.
I attended his second “It Came From Lake Michigan Film Festival.” It was phenomenal. He had many movies, training sessions for all aspects of filmmaking, and booths with noteworthy filmmakers of B movies: horror, fantasy, etc. The event was fun, informative and well-run.
Wayne also has a podcast, Indy Film Wisconsin in which he interviews various film industry professionals and encourages them to share their advice and experiences with listeners.
I always enjoy my conversations with Wayne. He knows a lot of people in politics, arts, business and environmental work. I think he is well-informed and has a knack for putting people and information together. Wayne Clingman is fair and honest and operates with integrity.
Sam Herr (President of the International Producer’s Alliance)
